Future

Admit it, we are all scared of the future. I know i am.

As i am nearing to the final stages in Polytechnic, i can't help but to feel ultra scared and worried about how will i be able to make it in the working world on my own. With all that: Job searching, interviews, dealing with assigned tasks, what will my future boss and colleagues think of me, what clothes should i buy, will i even survive the first week/month, how will i cope if i decide to study part time.. the list goes on.

And these crazy thoughts will constantly roam around my mind, just waiting for me to have a mental breakdown. But the thing is, i am almost clueless about what i want to do in life. A career path? Nothing comes to mind. i freaking hate myself for this. That is why i am truly envious of my close friends who have had their future planned out perfectly. Opening a cafe in 5 years, to be a Financial Director, Migrate to other countries, get married in blah blah years. Sigh.

So the other day i met up with some close friends of mine for dinner and one of them, advised me on taking a job at a government agency first for a career start. Mainly to get used to the working world, get my car licence, go to the University if i decided to and get experience while i plan my next move.

And after a consultation session with my dad, I am 80% sure now that i am going to work in a government agency after graduating. According to him, looking at Singapore's situation now and the demand of workers in the private sector, it is actually a wiser choice to start a career under the government. Secure job placing, acceptable pay. Just the downside of it is that it is a MONOTONOUS job. Doing the same thing everyday. But if that is what i have to overcome, the least i could do is to give my very best.

Competition

I've been in the Polytechnic for about 2 and a half years now and i have seen some crazy ass teenagers being all competitive, with grades. To the extend of HATING that person, just because he/she is scoring well.

I know that a little of competition is very healthy, helps one to be "on the ball" and not get left behind. But being competitive with OTHER people to that extent? Your greatest enemy is YOURSELF. And i truly stand by this quote. The only person one needs to beat and conquer is themselves.
